    Freezing rain warning for Whistler continued

    Freezing rain is occurring near Whistler and the central coast coastal region today.This is a warning that an extended period of freezing rain is expected or occurring in these regions.
    An intense frontal system moving over the south coast is producing periods of heavy rain over many areas today. However cold air still present over the southern coast range will continue to produce areas of freezing rain and locally heavy snow this afternoon.
    Storm total snowfall amounts of 44 cm have been reported in Whistler before changing to freezing rain this morning.

    High Freezing levels
    Freezing rain will persist in Whistler region and central coastal regions until the stubborn cold air is eroded by the warm frontal system. About 17 mm of freezing rain has already fallen in the Whistler region this morning.
    Further ice accumulations of about 10 mm are expected in the Whistler to Pemberton region this afternoon.Periods of heavy rain over much of the south coast will continue through today with further rainfall amounts of 60 to 100 mm expected through tonight for northshore mountains of Greater Vancouver.
    Further higher rainfall amounts of up to 230 mm of rain is forecast for Howe Sound for through tonight.
    This system is also producing southerly winds of 60 to 100 km/h at mountain top locations. The 964mb low wil cross the north tip of Vancouver island around 10pm tonight.
