A strong warm front will cross the south coast mountains late this afternoon and overnight. The front will direct a plume of mild and very moist sub tropical air towards the south coast mountains through Wednesday resulting in heavy precipitation and rising freezing levels. Freezing levels should peak Wednesday night.

Rainfall warning for
Howe Sound issued
50 to 70 mm of rain expected for Greater Vancouver and Howe Sound through Wednesday.
A low pressure system and its associated warm front is approaching the British Columbia coast. The low is expected to cross the north coast tonight and track just south of Terrace. Snow will begin over inland sections of the north coast this afternoon and continue through tonight with 20 to 30 cm of accumulation expected near Terrace with lesser amounts further north.
Meanwhile the warm front will cross the south coast late this afternoon. A strong onshore flow of moist sub-tropical air will follow the warm front bringing heavy rain to the west coast of Vancouver Island as well as Howe Sound the Fraser Valley and Greater Vancouver tonight through Wednesday. Amounts of up to 120 mm are possible along the southwest side of Vancouver Island and the Fraser Valley. Amounts of 50 to 75 mm are expected for Greater Vancouver and Howe Sound. The rain should ease late Wednesday as the flow of moist air slumps south into Washington state.
