June 22, 2007

Some warm weather in early June melted back some of the enormous snow pack. Snowline now sits at around 5500ft. Upper alpine areas are transitioning to a more summer like snow pack as sun cups begin to form. At least 2m of firn snow in all upper alpine areas remains. A recent avalanche off disease ridge on Blackcomb on a unsupported west slope fractured and cleaned to ground leaving 1.5m fracture lines. Most cornices have collapsed however there probably a few big ones left if they haven't succumbed to gravity.
